Keeping Crime Off The Streets - 71 Arrested In Series Of Operations

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led operations in Geylang, which started on 11 May 2015 and ended early this morning, with the participation of law enforcement officers from the Singapore Police Force, Central Narcotics Bureau, Singapore Customs, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, Ministry of Manpower, Singapore Civil Defence Force, and the Health Sciences Authority.

2          The multi-agency operations saw officers conducting targeted raids and proactive checks at entertainment outlets, coffee shops, private residential units, hotels, and back-alleys in Geylang.

3          The operations resulted in the arrest of 71 persons comprising 46 men and 25 women, aged between 17 and 57. These persons were arrested for their suspected involvement in gang activities, drug offences, immigration offences, drink driving, and vice activities.

4          In addition, illegal hawking, fire and health safety, Customs and MOM infringements were also detected during the operations. Investigations by the relevant agencies are in progress.

5          Together with our law enforcement partners, Police will continue to take tough enforcement actions against those inclined to commit crime and partake in illegal activities. More of such enforcement operations can be expected as part of ongoing efforts to keep crime off the streets.
