Launch Of “Crime Prevention And Awareness Guidebook” For Foreign Workers

The Crime Prevention and Awareness Guidebook produced by Jurong Police Division was launched by Mr Hawazi Daipi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Manpower and Education and Commander Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Wilson Lim on Saturday, 23 May 2015 at Woodlands Lodge One.

2          340,000 copies of this book have been produced in different languages and will be distributed to foreign workers in various parts of Singapore through their dormitory operators. The objective of the book is to educate foreign workers on measures they can take to protect themselves from falling prey to crime and to educate them on Singapore laws so that they do not unknowingly flout them.

3          In launching the book, Mr Hawazi Daipi said, “The guidebook is a very good initiative by Jurong Police Division in reaching out to and assimilating the foreign workers and I am heartened to see the close collaboration it has with the dormitory operators in its outreach efforts.”

4          At the event, Jurong Police Division also expressed its appreciation to over 80 Foreign Worker Ambassadors who were appointed to serve as mentors and help educate the other residents in the dormitories on crime prevention in the nine dormitories within its jurisdiction, namely:

  1. Juniper Lodge

  2. Jurong Lodge

  3. Kranji Lodge One

  4. North Coastal Lodge

  5. SCAL Jalan Lekar

  6. SCAL Mandai

  7. Wee Chwee Huat Dormitory

  8. Woodlands Lodge One

  9. Woodlands Lodge Two

5        Besides the nine dormitories, the event was also supported by other Home Team Agencies such as Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC).
