Police have arrested five male youth, aged between 15 and 19, for their suspected involvement in motor vehicle theft at Jurong West neighbourhood.

On the evening of 8 May 2015, the owner had parked his van at a public carpark located near Blk 413 Jurong West Street 42. He subsequently discovered that his van, believed to be driven by unknown person, was parked at another lot in the same carpark on 11 May 2015 and made a Police report. Upon receiving the report, officers from the Jurong Police Division carried out extensive investigations and ground enquiries to establish the identities of the five suspects, and arrested them on 3 June 2015.

Three of the suspects will be charged in Court on 5 June 2015 for the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle with common intention under Section 379A read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, each faces a maximum jail term of 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine. Investigations against the remaining suspects are ongoing.

Police would like to advise motor vehicles owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Engrave your vehicle registration number on the windscreens.

  • Install an alarm system.

  • Lock all the vehicle doors and wind up all windows.

  • Do not leave keys in the ignition switch.

  • Park in well-lit areas.
