Police have arrested three men, aged between 18 and 24 for suspected involvement in a series of shop theft cases.

 

2.         On 7 June 2015 at about 10:20 pm, Police were alerted to a case of shop theft at a shopping mall along Orchard Road.

 

3.         Following extensive enquiries and investigative follow-up, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identities of the suspects. An operation was mounted on 9 June 2015 and all three subjects were arrested within 40 hours of the report.

 

4.         Preliminary investigations revealed that the men were believed to be involved in a series of shop theft cases island-wide. The stolen items were sold to unsuspecting buyers via popular online trading platforms.

 

 

  

 

 

 

5.         The three subjects will be charged in Court on 11 June 2015 for the offence of Theft in Dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

 

6.         Police would like to remind the public that shop theft is a crime which carries a maximum jail term of seven years’ imprisonment, or fine, or both.

 

7.         Members of public are also advised to adopt the following measures to avoid purchasing stolen goods:

 

  • Purchase goods from reputable online retailers only;

  • Be wary if a brand new item is sold substantially below retail price;

  • Ask seller for the source of the item; and

  • Notify the Police should you suspect someone to be selling stolen goods.
