 Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft along Orchard Road.

 

2.         On 11 May 2015, the victim reported that someone had made several unauthorised withdrawals from his bank account.  The victim had, on 4 May 2015, used his ATM card to pay for bill at a pub located along Orchard Road. The suspect, who works at the said pub, took notice of the pin number and on the pretext of processing the bill, took the victim’s ATM card to make several withdrawals from a nearby ATM machine. Unauthorised withdrawals amounting to S$6000 were made using the victim’s ATM card.

 

3.            Following the report, officers from Tanglin Police Division conducted investigations and extensive ground enquiries which led to the identification and arrest of the male suspect at Bedok on 24 June 2015 at about 1.45pm.

 

4.           He will be charged in Court on 26 June 2015 for the offence of Theft under Section 379, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 3 years or with fine, or with both. 

 

5.         Members of public are advised to safeguard their ATM / credit cards at crowded places. When making payments with ATM / credit cards, be aware of their surroundings and ensure that their ATM PINs are not exposed to anyone else.
