Police have arrested four men, aged between 15 and 27, in two separate cases for the Possession of Airsoft Guns.
2 For the first case on 11 June 2015 at about 9.30 am, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrested two men aged 15 and 17 at Blk 116 Yishun Ring Road for possession of an airsoft gun that was seized as case exhibit.
3 Further investigations revealed that the 17-year-old suspect is believed to have purchased the seized airsoft gun from another 26-year-old man, before the former arranged to sell it to the 15-year-old on the morning of 11 June 2015. The 26-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested on 12 June 2015 at about 8.45 am in Choa Chu Kang. Two other airsoft guns with pellets and gas refills were also seized from his possession.
4 In the second case on 28 June 2015 at about 1.20 am, officers from Jurong Police Division arrested a 27-year-old man along Jurong West Street 61 for the possession of an airsoft gun that was seized as a case exhibit. Preliminary investigations reveal that the accused is also allegedly involved in a criminal intimidation case and other drug-related offences. Investigations against all four suspects are ongoing.
5 Airsoft guns or any other guns which shoot pellets using compressed gas are regulated as ‘arms’ under the Arms & Explosives Act. No person, unless authorised by a Licence to Possess Arms, shall have in his possession or under his control any of such guns. Under Section 13(3) of the Arms and Explosives Act, any person who, in contravention of this section, has in his possession or under his control any gun without license shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 for every such gun and to imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years.
6 It is also an offence for anyone to import or export any arms or explosives or any parts of arms or explosives. Anyone caught doing this may be prosecuted in Court for an offence of importing or exporting any arms or explosives under section 13 (1) of the Arms & Explosives Act, Chapter 13. If convicted, the offender will be liable to imprisonment not exceeding 3 years and fined up to S$10,000.
