Police have arrested a 28-year-old man believed to be involved in several cases of theft from person along Orchard Road.

 

On 26 July 2015, a female shopper at a shopping centre along Orchard Road felt someone bumped into her. She then saw the suspect walk away hurriedly.  The victim then discovered her handphone and some other miscellaneous items missing from her backpack, and immediately reported the matter to the Police.

 

Upon receiving the report, officers from Orchard Neighbourhood Police Centre followed up immediately. Armed with the suspect’s description, officers from Tanglin Division who were on anti-crime rounds in the vicinity managed to spot the suspect and detain him in less than three hours after the report was lodged.

 

A mobile phone and some miscellaneous items were seized as case exhibits. The suspect is also believed to be involved in other similar offences.

 

The suspect will be charged in the State Court No. 26 on 28 July 2015 for the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 3 years or with fine, or with both.
