Police have arrested three men, aged between 22 and 26, for suspected impersonating as a public servant at Lorong 16 Geylang, Singapore.

On 11 August 2015 at about 3.15am, Police received a call for assistance along Lorong 16 Geylang. Upon Police's arrival, it was established that the suspects had approached the four victims and identified themselves as Police officers. Preliminary investigations revealed that the three suspects conducted a check on the victims belongings before fleeing with one of the victim's cash. Through extensive ground enquiry, officers managed to establish the suspects whereabouts and placed them under arrest. The stolen cash was also recovered and seized.

The trio will be charged in Court on 13 August 2015 for an offence of Personating as a Public Servant under Section 170 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine, or with both and for Theft of Cash with common intention under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.

Police would also like to remind the public to be vigilant and wary of persons who may impersonate as Police Officers to facilitate the commission of their criminal acts. If in doubt, they should request for the Police Officers Warrant Card to verify his identity before complying with the instructions of the officer. If they are still unsure of the persons credibility as a Police officer, they should call 999 for assistance.
