Seven Men Arrested in Connection to a Case of Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt with Dangerous Weapons

Police have arrested seven men, aged between 23 and 46, in connection to a case of Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt with Dangerous Weapons.

On 26 August 2015 at about 10.11pm, Police received a call informing us of a person injured near to the junction of Arab Street and Rochor Canal Road. Upon Police's arrival, it was established that a 52-year-old Singaporean man had been conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital with facial injuries after he was believed to have been assaulted by two male subjects.

Following the report, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department conducted extensive ground enquiries and investigative probes in a bid to establish the suspects identities. In an operation mounted on 21 September 2015, the officers arrested seven suspects who were believed to be involved in the case. Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident had occurred arising from a business rivalry dispute.

Three of the suspects will be charged in Court on 23 September 2015 for the offence of Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt with Dangerous Weapons under Section 326 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Three other suspects will be charged with the offence of Abetment of the said offence of Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt with Dangerous Weapons under Section 326 read with Section 116 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The seventh suspect will be charged for an offence of Criminal Intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

Any person convicted for the offence of Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt with Dangerous Weapons may be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment for a term which may extent to 15 years, and shall also be liable to fine or to caning. Any person convicted for the offence of criminal Intimidation may be sentenced to imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years or with fine, or with both.
