Police have arrested two men, aged 23 and 38, for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 22 September 2015, Police received a report on loanshark harassment at Pasir Ris Street 72. Through extensive ground enquires and follow-up investigations, officers from the Bedok Division established the identities of the two suspects and arrested them along Anchorvale Road on 6 October 2015. Two mobile phones containing suspected debtors records and two markers were also seized as case exhibits.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects are believed to have carried out several acts of harassment in Pasir Ris, Woodlands and Ang Mo Kio housing estates by splashing paint at debtors unit and letter box, and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls.

Both suspects will be charged in Court on 8 October 2015 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
