Mock Demonstration Exercise for Launch Of East Coast Park Watch Group

Bedok South Neighbourhood Police Centre (BS NPC) and the Police Coast Guard (PCG) carried out a mock demonstration, involving members from the East Coast Park (ECP) Watch Group. This was held at ECP near Bedok Jetty on Friday, 9 October 2015.

40 people participated in the exercise, which involved a simulated illegal boat landing and unloading of goods along the ECP coastline. Participating Watch Group members then alerted the police upon detecting suspicious activities along the coastline.

With the introduction of the ECP Watch Group, BS NPC and PCG hope to achieve the vision of a ‘Safe Border, Safe Home’. Commanding Officer (CO) of BS NPC, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ms Ang Mei Qi, said BS NPC and PCG have collaborated to form the ECP Watch Group, which is a new initiative aimed at empowering the community to take on a proactive role to beef up the security along the ECP coastline. Members of the watch group are residents who frequent ECP. Through their assistance to look out for suspicious activities even during the hours of darkness they help ensure that the ECP coastline is safe regardless of what time of the day it is.

Officers arrive in their Fast Response Cars (FRC) after being alerted to suspicious activity at East Coast Park.

Suspect arrested upon Police's arrival at the scene.

Suspect being escorted by officers.

Suspect being secured and held in the FRC.
