Police have arrested a man and a woman, aged 27 and 24, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 16 and 17 October 2015, Police received reports from two complainants from Telok Blangah Rise, informing that their unit number was written on the wall of the staircase and that their main door was splashed with red paint. Officers from the Bukit Merah Neighbourhood Police Centre immediately sprang into action and managed to identify the suspects through Police Cameras (POLCAMS) footage.

On 28 October 2015 at about 6.42pm, an off-duty officer spotted the two suspects and, with the help of resources, arrested the suspects at the vicinity of Tiong Bahru Plaza. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have committed loanshark harassments in the Telok Blangah and Hougang housing estates by splashing paint on the doors of debtors and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of HDB blocks.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 30 October 2014 for loanshark harassment. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, committing or attempting to commit any acts of harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
