Police have arrested men and a woman, aged between 16 and 20, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 27 October 2015, Police received a report from a 27-year-old complainant, informing that there was black paint splashed on his main door and that there were writings on the wall beside his unit.

Upon receiving the report, officers from Central Division sprang into action and managed to establish the identity of the suspects. Based on follow-up investigations, the three suspects were arrested at Ang Mo Kio Central 1 on 28 October 2015. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have committed loanshark harassments in the housing estate of French Road, Jelapang Road, Tampines, Pasir Ris, Hougang and Clementi by splashing paint on the doors of debtors and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of HDB blocks.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 30 October 2015 for loanshark harassment. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, committing or attempting to commit any acts of harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
