Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of loansharking harassment cases.

On 30 October 2015 at about 2.05am, officers from Clementi Division were conducting patrol at Clementi West Street 2 when they spotted the suspect loitering around suspiciously. Upon checking on him, the suspect was found with loanshark paraphernalia and subsequently arrested. He is believed to have committed several islandwide loanshark harassment cases at public housing estates in Jurong East, Woodlands, Bedok, Sengkang and Tampines by splashing paint on debtor’s units and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of residential units.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 31 October 2015 for loanshark harassment under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
