Police have arrested two men aged 19 and 20 for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 3 November 2015, through follow-up investigations on a loanshark harassment case reported on 19 October 2015 at Tampines Street 41, officers from Bedok Division arrested the two men along Tampines Street 22 and Pasir Ris Street 71. One handphone, one black marker and one debtor note were seized for investigations.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both men were believed to have carried out acts of harassment in Tampines and Pasir Ris housing estate by locking debtor’s unit with bicycle lock and pasting debtor notes on the gates of the units.

The men will be charged in Court on 4 November 2015 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
