The Police have arrested a 37-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty committed on board a MRT.

On 2 January 2016, a female victim came across a posting on a social media site about a male suspect allegedly touching an unknown female passenger on board a train from Sembawang MRT station towards Bishan MRT station. Acting on the posting, the female victim lodged a Police report on the same day, stating that she was molested by the same suspect previously.

Following the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division and Public Transport Security Command commenced investigations and conducted extensive ground enquires to establish the suspect’s identity. The suspect was subsequently arrested on 7 January 2016.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 9 January 2016 for the offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a jail term up to 2 years, or fined and also be liable to caning, upon conviction.
