The Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of loanshark related harassment.

On 10 December 2015, Police received a report on loanshark harassment whereby paint was splashed at the door and loanshark graffiti scrawled on the wall of a residential HDB unit at Bukit Panjang. Upon receiving the report, officers from the Bukit Panjang Neighbourhood Police Centre conducted extensive probes to establish the suspect’s identity. During their routine patrol on 12 January 2016, the vigilant officers spotted the suspect and arrested him along Segar Road. A mobile phone and a cap were seized as case exhibits. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have carried out similar act of harassment in Sengkang housing estate.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 14 January 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
