Singapore Police Force And Royal Malaysia Police Nabbed Thief For Stealing More Than S$900,000 Worth Of Casino Chips

The Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft from the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino.

On 2 September 2015, officers from the Casino Crime Investigation Branch (CCIB) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) commenced investigations following a report of theft at the said casino. The victim was a casino patron who had reported that his bag containing casino chips worth more than S$900,000, cash amounting to S$10,000 and other valuables were stolen.

With strong co-operation and assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), the suspect was arrested in Malaysia pursuant to a warrant of arrest issued by the State Courts in Singapore and handed over to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on 20 January 2016.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 21 January 2016 for the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he is liable to imprisonment for term not exceeding three years or fine or to both.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations & Intelligence) concurrent Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Tan Chye Hee expressed his appreciation to the RMP for their assistance and said, The RMP has once again rendered their strong support to the Singapore Police Force, leading to the arrest of this suspect. Both Police forces will continue to work closely in the fight against criminals and will spare no effort to bring to justice those who committed crimes in Singapore and fled from our borders thereafter.
