The Police Coast Guards (PCG) vigilance and swift actions resulted in the arrest of 5 illegal immigrants for entering or leaving Singapore unlawfully from 20 to 23 January 2016.

On 20 January 2016 at about 2.22am, PCG detected three floating objects believed to be swimmers at the sea off Senoko, Singapore. PCG immediately deployed its resources to intercept the swimmers. At about 2.32am, PCG craft successfully intercepted and arrested three men aged between 25 and 30 for the offence of unlawful entry into Singapore under the Immigration Act (Chapter 133).

On the second occasion, on 22 January 2016 at about 3.35am, PCG also detected a swimmer at the sea off Fuji Jetty, Singapore. Subsequently, a 45-year-old man was intercepted and arrested for attempting to enter Singapore unlawfully.

On the third occasion, on 23 January 2016 at about 3.15am, a 31-year-old man was arrested at the sea off Sungai Mandai, Singapore for attempting to leave Singapore illegally by swimming across the Straits of Johor to Malaysia.

Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun said, "These successful detections and arrests are testament to PCG's resolve to safeguard Singapore waters, despite the challenging terrain. PCG will continue to be steadfast and vigilant, working more determinedly round the clock to achieve PCG’s mission in preventing, deterring and detecting crime in the Singapore waters.
