The Police Coast Guard (PCG) arrested 2 men for attempting to leave Singapore illegally by swimming across the Straits of Johor to Malaysia on 5 February 2016.

On 5 February 2016 at about 1.25am, PCG was informed by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) that two men were seen loitering suspiciously along the shore of Woodlands Waterfront. PCG and Jurong Division resources were immediately deployed to search for the men. At about 2.08am, the officers successfully located and arrested two men aged 23 and 28 for the offence of attempting to leave Singapore at unauthorized place under the Immigration Act (Chapter 133).

Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun said, "The successful detection and arrest is yet another testament to PCG’s resolve to safeguard Singapore waters. PCG will continue to be steadfast and vigilant in fulfilling our mission, which is to prevent, deter and detect crime in the Singapore Territorial waters.
