The Police have arrested a 32-year-old man believed to be involved in attempts to commit house-breaking by night at Bras Basah commercial estate.
On 27 Mar 2016 at about 4.30 am, the Police received a report of a man who had been seen meddling with the roller-shutter padlocks of two shops located at Bras Basah. The unidentified man fled after a security officer confronted him
Officers from Central Division conducted extensive investigations and established the identity of the suspect before arresting him on 4 Apr 2016. A wooden pole believed to be used in the commission of offence was recovered and seized as case exhibit.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 6 April 2016 with the offence of Attempted to commit House-breaking by Night under Section 456 read with Section 511 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 3 years and a fine.
The public is advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures to protect their premises against break-ins:
- Ensure that all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings are properly secured with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks;
- Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in commercial premises in the night hours; and
- Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
