Six Arrested for Cheating at Play Using Electronic Devices at Casinos’ Slot Machines

The Police have arrested a group of three men and three women aged between 33 and 41, for their suspected involvement in cheating using electronic devices at both the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) and Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) casinos’ slot machines. The group comprises of one Czech, four Russians and one Filipino.

 

On 7 May 2016, Police were alerted to a case of suspected cheating at the RWS casino. Officers from the Casino Crime Investigation Branch (CCIB) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) responded immediately to the case and commenced investigations to establish the identity of the suspects involved. Through extensive investigative probes and enquiries, the identities of the suspects were subsequently established. On 8 May 2016, in a coordinated operation mounted by officers from CID, four suspects were arrested at the casinos and two others were arrested at a hotel at Tanjong Pagar. During the operation, 16 mobile phones, a laptop, cash and other items worth more than $125,000, were seized as case exhibits.   

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have used electronic devices to commit cheating while betting at the slot machines at the casinos.

 

Five of the suspects will be charged in Court on 10 May 2016 with the offence of Cheating at play by the fraudulent use of gaming equipment or any other thing under Section 172A(1)(c) of the Casino Control Act, Chapter 33A. If convicted, they may be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years or to a fine not exceeding $150,000. Investigation against the female Filipino suspect is still ongoing.
