The collaboration between Police Coast Guard (PCG) and Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has resulted in the arrest of one man for unlawful entry into Singapore on 4 June 2016.

On 4 June 2016 at about 9.36 am, PCG was informed by the ICA that a floating object believed to be a swimmer was detected at the sea off Woodlands Checkpoint. PCG immediately deployed both land and sea resources to identify and intercept the object. At about 9.45 am, a PCG craft successfully intercepted and arrested the 46-year-old Malaysian man for the offence of unlawful entry into Singapore under the Immigration Act (Chapter 133).

The ICA takes a serious view of attempts to overstay, enter or depart Singapore illegally. Under the Immigration Act, the penalties for overstaying and illegal entry are a jail term of up to six months plus a minimum of three strokes of the cane. Investigation is ongoing.

Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun said, "The close collaboration between SPF and ICA reaffirm our determination to stamp out any unlawful attempts to enter Singapore. PCG will continue to be steadfast and vigilant in fulfilling our mission, which is to prevent, deter and detect crime in the Singapore Territorial waters.”
