The Police have arrested a 34-year-old man believed to be involved in a case of attempted extortion at Tech Park Crescent.

 

On 8 August 2016, the 32-year-old male victim reported to the Police that he had received a call from an unknown person who had purportedly demanded S$500 from him. The latter had threatened to disseminate compromising photographs of the victim’s wife on the internet should the victim refuse to comply with his instructions.

 

Officers from Jurong Division conducted intensive investigations and arrested the suspect at Jurong West Ave 5 on 10 August 2016. The suspect’s mobile phone was seized as case exhibit.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 12 August 2016 with the offence of Attempted Extortion under Section 385 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 5 years with caning.
