The Police have arrested three male youths, two aged 18 and one aged 19, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 18 September 2016 at about 9.10pm, the Police received a report about two male youths behaving suspiciously at Block 424D Yishun Avenue 11. Loanshark-related graffiti was found scrawled on the wall near to a staircase of the said block. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division managed to identify the two suspects and arrested them at Buangkok Crescent on 23 September 2016 at about 3.20pm. The third suspect was subsequently arrested on the same day at about 5pm along Bedok North Avenue 4. Mobile phones were seized as case exhibits.

 

The three suspects will be charged in Court on 24 September 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
