The Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loansharking harassment. 

 

On 26 September 2016, the Police received a report that a residential unit at Blk 449 Sin Ming Ave had been locked with a bicycle chain. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Lorong 5 Toa Payoh on 27 September 2016.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 29 September 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years and shall also be liable to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory caning of not more than 6 strokes.
