The Police have arrested five males and one female, aged between 16 and 18, for their suspected involvement in several cases of house break-ins.

 

Between 27 to 28 September 2016, cases of house break-ins were reported along Serangoon North Avenue 4 and Hougang Street 91, with items such as wallets, handphones and tablets reportedly stolen.

 

Upon receipt of the reports, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division conducted extensive investigation and arrested five suspects along Lorong 18 Geylang, and the remaining suspect along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 on 28 September 2016.

 

Two of the suspects will be charged in Court on 30 September 2016 with the offence of House-breaking and Theft by Night with Common Intention under Section 457 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, they are liable to an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years and shall also be liable to a fine. Investigations against the remaining four suspects are ongoing.

 

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures: 

 

·         Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;

·         Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;

·         Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and

·         Keep large sums of cash in banks.
