Islandwide Roll Out of Shopwatch Community Safety and Security Programme (CSSP) in Prime Supermarket

The Singapore Police Force (SPF), in collaboration with Prime Supermarket, has rolled out the “ShopWatch” CSSP in Prime Supermarkets islandwide this morning at Prime Jurong West 763, Blk 763 Jurong West Street 75 #01-01. Commander of Jurong Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Koh Wei Keong, and CEO of Prime Supermarket Mr Chong Wee Cheong, graced the event.

With effect from today, staff from all Prime Supermarkets islandwide will don vests bearing the words “SHOPWATCH. May I help you?” to enhance their presence to deter and detect shop theft.

The “Shopwatch” CSSP was first introduced in October 2015 at all Sheng Siong Supermarkets islandwide. Since then, the number of shop theft cases reported has declined at Sheng Siong Supermarkets.

Mr Chong said, “The Shopwatch initiative is a Community Safety and Security Programme initiated by the Singapore Police Force to involve corporate partners in creating greater deterrence against shoplifting. We believe that shop theft can be prevented through attentive service and are very happy to introduce this meaningful programme to all our outlets."

AC Koh said, “We are happy to have Prime Supermarket on board this initiative. Other retailers are welcomed to adopt a more proactive approach to deter and prevent shop theft so as to enhance their customer shopping experience. We are confident that such strong community partnership will put us in a good stead to curb shop theft.”
