The Police are investigating a 27-year-old woman believed to have lodged a false report.
On 2 October 2016 at about 8.30 pm, the woman lodged a police report alleging that an unknown male cyclist had snatched her bag which contained clothing worth $39.90 near a bus stop along Pandan Loop.
In the course of investigations, officers from Clementi Division detected many inconsistencies and established that the woman had provided false information by claiming she was a victim of snatch theft.
Investigations against the woman are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
