The Police have arrested two women, aged 28 and 31 for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 11 October 2016, through follow-up investigations on a loanshark harassment case reported at Pasir Ris Drive 6 on 22 September 2016, officers from Bedok Division arrested the two suspects along Teban Garden Road and Ubi Avenue 1. Two handphones and some clothes were seized as case exhibits.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects are believed to have carried out loanshark harassment acts at Pasir Ris and Macpherson housing estates by splashing paint and pasting debtor’s notes at debtors’ units.

Both suspects will be charged in Court on 12 October 2016 under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010). First time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
