The Police have arrested a 34-year-old woman believed to be involved in a job scam.

On 12 October 2016, Police received a report from a victim informing that the suspect had collected money from her on the pretext of a job offer. The victim then paid the suspect a deposit for the job offer, however the suspect became uncontactable thereafter.

Through extensive investigations, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested her along Lorong 23 Geylang on 7 December 2016.

The suspect will be charged in the State Courts on 8 December 2016 for an offence of Cheating, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Any person convicted of an offence of Cheating, may be jailed for a term of not extending more than 10 years for each offence.

The Police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Seek employment service(s) from a licensed employment agent.

  • Be suspicious of employers that require upfront payment before you start work

  • Ignore job advertisements of a dubious nature

  • Be wary of job offers that promise high returns for very little effort

  • Contact the Police if you are a victim
