The Police have arrested two youths aged 16 and 18 for their suspected involvement in a loanshark harassment case at Serangoon Ave 1.

 

On 21 December 2016, Police received a report on loanshark harassment where a residential unit at Serangoon Ave 1 was splashed with yellow paint. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division established the identity of the suspects and arrested them at the vicinity of St Georges’s Road and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 on 11 January 2017. Preliminary investigations reveal that they are believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment cases in other parts of Singapore.

 

The suspects will be charged in Court on 13 January 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
