Two Men Arrested for Criminal Breach of Trust involving Counterfeit Watches

The Police have arrested two 19-year-old men for their suspected involvement in a case of Criminal Breach of Trust involving a branded watch valued at $8880.

On 15 January 2017, police received a report from the victim who had posted an online advertisement to sell his branded watch. The suspects responded to the advertisement and arranged to view the watch at a café in Bukit Panjang Plaza. The two suspects turned up and the victim handed over the watch to one of them for examination. While the victim was distracted, one of the suspects swapped the victim’s watch with another watch, believed to be counterfeit and handed the latter to the victim.

The two suspects then called off the deal and the victim realized that the watch in his possession was not his and alerted the police of the matter.

Through extensive enquiries and follow up, officers from Jurong Division established the identities of the two suspects and arrested them on 17 January 2017 along Tampines Street 72 and Clementi Road. A total of four watches were recovered from the suspects. One of them belonged to the victim and the remaining three are believed to be counterfeit watches.

Investigations against the suspects are ongoing.

Anyone found guilty of the offence of Criminal Breach of Trust under Section 406 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years, or with fine, or with both.
