The Police are investigating two men in separate cases, who are believed to have lodged false reports regarding the alleged thefts of motor vehicles.
In the first case, on 21 February 2017 at about 3.44am, a 32-year-old man had called the police to report that his car was stolen from Choa Chu Kang North 6. In the second case, on 5 March 2017 at about 11.10pm, a 24-year-old man called the police to report that his lorry was stolen from Admiralty Road.
Officers from Jurong Division conducted ground enquiries and detected several inconsistencies in both their accounts during the course of investigations. It was eventually established that both men had provided false information to the Police that their vehicles were stolen.
Investigations against the two men are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
