The Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of cheating.

On 17 March 2017, the Police received a report that stolen credit card details were believed to have been used to make online purchases. Officers from Central Division conducted immediate investigations to establish the identity of the suspect. In an operation carried out on the same day, the suspect was arrested along Hougang Avenue 3.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have taken photographs of credit cards he handled during the course of his work and thereafter misused the credit card details to make online purchases.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 18 March 2017 with an offence of Cheating, which is punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

Members of the public are advised to adopt the following measures to minimise the likelihood of compromising personal credit card information and the fraudulent usage of such details:

  1. During a transaction, keep an eye on your card. Make sure you get it back before you leave;

  2. Save your receipts to compare with the bank statement;

  3. Open your bills promptly, or check them online regularly, and tally them with the purchases you have made; and

  4. Report any suspicious transactions to the card issuer immediately.
