The Traffic Police and Singapore Road Safety Council, together with the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) and the Land Transport Authority, launched the Safer Roads Campaign 2017 at Our Tampines Hub today. Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Mr Amrin Amin was the Guest-of-Honour at the event.

The theme of this year’s Safer Roads campaign is “Choose Graciousness” which recognises that every road user has an important role to play in ensuring road safety. The campaign calls for all road users to continue practising good RoadSense and to “Choose Graciousness”.[1]

Through this campaign, a series of road safety videos, targeted at specific road users, has been co-produced by the four organisers to be shared on their social media platforms. Banners promoting this year’s road safety messages will also be placed on lamp posts islandwide.

Dr William Wan, General Secretary of SKM, said “Safer driving is a function of mindfulness. We need to be disciplined in paying attention to the present moment in order to be aware of our surroundings and other road users. Being aware of what is happening when we drive will help us to be more gracious, courteous and considerate to fellow road users.”

With these initiatives, the organisers hope to partner the community of road users in building a culture of graciousness on the roads. Let’s all work together to create a safer and kinder road environment in Singapore.
