Syndicate Busted For Involvement In The Sales Of Counterfeit Mobile Phones

In a 10-hour operation mounted on 11 April 2017, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), together with Singapore Customs, conducted simultaneous raids in Tanah Merah, Kaki Bukit and Harbourfront and arrested eight men, aged between 28 and 40, for their suspected involvement in the sales of counterfeit mobile phones.

A total of about 10,660 pieces of trade mark-infringing goods comprising mobile phones and components parts, with an estimated street value of about S$1,478,479/-, were also seized during the operation. Investigation into the case is ongoing.

Police take a serious view of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) infringements and will not hesitate to take action against perpetrators who showed blatant disregard for our IPR laws.

Persons found guilty of falsely applying a registered trade mark to goods may be fined up to a maximum of $100,000, or an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, or both.
