The Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for his suspected involvement in at least four cases of Housebreaking and Theft by Night.

 

Between 3 to 19 April 2017, a few cases of break-ins at shop-houses were reported along Changi Road, Macpherson Road and Simon Road, with more than S$500 cash, a mobile phone and an iPad reported stolen.

 

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 25 April 2017 at Block 445 Hougang Avenue 8.

 

The suspect will be charged in the Court on 27 April 2017 with the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

 

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures: 

  • Ensure that all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings are well-secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition; and

  • Keep large sums of cash in banks.
