The Police have arrested four female foreigners, aged between 26 to 39, for their suspected involvement in vice-related activities. Three of the women are Russians and one is an Uzbek.

On 4 May 2017, officers from Criminal Investigation Department conducted simultaneous raids in the vicinity of Raffles Boulevard, Tanjong Katong Road and Cairnhill Road, resulting in the arrests. The women allegedly made use of their stay in Singapore on valid work passes to commit vice-related offences.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vice syndicate has been advertising the sexual services of women on at least 10 different online platforms including Backpage, Skokka, Yelp and other dedicated vice websites, claiming to provide high-class escort services at rates starting from $500 per hour. Potential customers can book the services of the girls via mobile phone numbers or email addresses provided on the websites. During the operation, 13 mobile phones, 4 laptops, a tablet computer, condoms and related documents were seized as case exhibits.

One of the women, a 39-year-old, will be charged in Court with offences under the Women’s Charter on 6 May 2017 while investigations are on-going for the remaining three. Under the Women’s Charter, any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person, is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years and shall also be liable to a fine not exceeding $10,000.
