The Police are investigating a 57-year-old man who is believed to have provided false information to the Police.

On 16 May 2017 at about 11.50pm, the man provided information to the Police alleging that he was attacked and robbed of cash by an unknown man at Blk 621A Edgefield Walk.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted probes and detected several inconsistencies during the course of investigations. It was eventually established that he had provided false information to the Police.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will be dealt with under the law.
