The Police have arrested two men, aged 17 and 22, for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
On 21 May 2017, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment where a car parked along Senja Road was scratched and loanshark-related notes were found affixed on its windscreen. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Jurong Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them along Bedok North Avenue 3 on 29 May 2017.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment in Bukit Panjang, Marsiling, Punggol, Sengkang, Pasir Ris and Bedok Reservoir housing estates. A cap and 2 mobile phones were seized as case exhibits.
The suspects will be charged in Court on 31 May 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
