Swift Arrest Of A Male Suspect For House-Breaking To Commit Theft

The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man in relation to a case of House-breaking to commit theft at Block 56 Cassia Crescent, Singapore.

On 3 June 2017 at about 9.05 am, the police received a report that a male subject had stretched his hand through an open window into their unit to rummage through the contents of a bag. Upon receipt of the report officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police cameras (POLCAMs), the identity of the suspect was soon established.

On 4 June 2017 at 12.17 am, the suspect was arrested at Geylang Lorong 20. The suspect will be charged in Courts on 5 June 2017 with an offence of House-breaking to commit theft under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 years, and shall also be liable to fine; and if the offence intended to be committed is theft, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in commercial premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
