The Police received information on the gathering of secret society members at a funeral wake and procession which was held on 4 June 2017, at Block 483 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 5 and the chanting of secret society related slogans at Mandai Crematorium thereafter.

In operations mounted from 4 to 10 June 2017, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Jurong Police Division arrested a total of 13 suspects aged between 16 and 49 for their suspected involvement in gang activities. Investigations against the subjects are in progress and operations are ongoing to identify and arrest other offenders.

The Police take a very stern view of gang-related activities and will continue with tough enforcement efforts and come down hard on those who choose to be associated with gangs and their activities. Anyone convicted for being a member of an unlawful society under section 14(3) of the Societies Act, Chapter 311, is liable to be sentenced to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term of up to 3 years or to both
