Man Arrested for Using Criminal Force to Deter an NEA Enforcement Officer from Discharge of Duty

The Police have arrested a 57-year-old man for using criminal force against an enforcement officer from the National Environment Agency (NEA) to deter him from discharging his duty at Woodlands Centre Road.

On 8 August 2017, four enforcement officers from NEA were conducting enforcement at Woodlands Centre Road when they noticed a man smoking under a covered walkway, an area in which smoking is prohibited. When the man was stopped by the enforcement officers, he refused to provide his particulars to the enforcement officers and forcefully grabbed the arm of one of the enforcement officers. Police were alerted to the case and the man was arrested subsequently.

Police investigations are ongoing. Under Section 353 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, whoever uses criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 4 years, or with fine, or with both.
