The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment involving fire. 

 

On 5 August 2017 at about 9.16 am, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment involving fire at a residential unit located at Blk 308C Anchorvale Road. Through coordinated efforts by the officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Jurong Police Division and Criminal Investigation Department, the identity of the suspect was established after extensive ground enquiries and viewing of images from Police Cameras. The suspect was subsequent arrested along Anchorvale Road on 18 August 2017.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 19 August 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.

 

The Police have zero tolerance for such lawless acts of loanshark harassment which threaten the community’s sense of safety. Those who commit these acts of harassment causing damage and endangering lives of innocent victims will be pursued and dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
