The Police have arrested a 19-year-old man suspected to have been involved in a series of motorcycle thefts island-wide. 

On 19 September 2017 at about 11.34 pm, the Police received a report of motorcycle being stolen from the open carpark of Blk 247 Yishun Avenue 9.

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and follow up investigations. The suspect was arrested on 22 September 2017 at about 5.30 pm at the vicinity of Yishun Avenue 11. He is believed to be involved in several other cases island-wide.

The man will be charged in Court on 23 September 2017 with the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he will be liable to an imprisonment term of up to 7 years and shall also be liable to fine.

The Police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;

  • Install an anti-theft alarm for your motorcycle;

  • Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends; 

  • Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard; and

  • Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, whenever it is left unattended.
