The Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of thefts from departmental stores.

 

Between July and August 2017, the Police received reports from retailers informing that merchandise were stolen from their stores located along Orchard Road.

 

Through extensive follow up investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Yishun Street 11 on 9 October 2017. Earphones, speakers and gift cards were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 11 October 2017 with the offence of Theft-in-Dwelling under section 380 of the Penal Code. If convicted, he shall be liable for an imprisonment term which may extend to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

 

The Police would like to advise shop owners to adopt the following precautionary measures:

 

  • Install CCTV and an anti-theft alarm system
  • Safeguard display items locked display cabinets should there be no security tagging

  • Display advisory signage or warnings against shop theft at prominent locations

  • Observe and look out for suspicious characters in the shop.
