The Police are investigating 10 youths, aged between 16 and 18, for their suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.
Between August 2017 and October 2017, the Police received several reports from victims who were cheated by online sellers who offered the sale of Halloween Horror event tickets at a discounted price. When the victims presented the tickets at the event venue, they were denied entry and it was discovered then that the tickets they had purchased were fake.
Through extensive follow up investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of 10 suspects and it was revealed that at least 120 fake tickets had been sold to unsuspecting buyers.
Preliminary investigations also revealed that three of the suspects had provided false information to the Police by alleging that they had been coerced into selling the fake tickets.
Any person found guilty of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will be dealt with under the law.
Any person found guilty of Forgery for the Purpose of Cheating under Section 468 of the Penal Code may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine. Anyone who intentionally aid in, or abet the commission of the said offence may also be liable for the same punishment.
