The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of fraudulent credit card purchases from an online shopping platform.

On 16 October 2017, the Police received a report from a victim informing that her credit card had been used to make multiple fraudulent purchases from an online shopping platform. On further checks with the online shopping platform, more than 50 fraudulent credit card transactions worth more than $19,000 were detected.

Upon the receipt of the report, officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive investigations to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 26 October 2017.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had fraudulently obtained the details of more than 15 credit cards from the internet. He then used these credit cards to purchase highly marketable products such as milk powder, diaper, tonic wine and bird nest from the online shopping platform. The suspect then sold these products.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 27 October 2017 with an offence of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he will be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
