The Police are investigating a 55-year-old woman who is believed to have lodged a false report.

On 29 October 2017 at about 1.30 pm, the woman lodged a report alleging that her house located at Serangoon Central was broken into by her ex-tenants and cash amounting to $500 was missing.

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive enquiries and detected several inconsistencies during the course of investigations. It was eventually established that she had provided false information to the Police as her tenants had not paid their rental for three months and she hoped that they would be pressured to pay off their arrears once the Police stepped in.

Investigations against the woman are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that our resources can be put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
